From the Cheddar's restaurant blog thought I would share --
It’s almost St. Patrick’s Day, which means it’s time to break out the green beer, your green clothes and plenty of shamrocks. It might surprise you to know that, originally, the color associated with St. Patrick’s Day was blue.
So just where did all this focus on green come from? Most historians think it’s because Ireland is often called the Emerald Isle and the flag includes a green stripe. Regardless of the reason, the color caught on, and as early as the 17th century, people began festooning themselves with green ribbons and shamrocks. In addition, legend has it that wearing green helps ward off leprechauns. Apparently, leprechauns will pinch anyone in sight, but since they can’t see green, if you wear it, you’re invisible to them.
