The College Home Run Derby returns to TD Ameritrade Park at 7:30
p.m. Thursday, as does The World-Herald’s 30th annual fireworks display.
The fireworks will follow the derby, around 10:15 p.m.
Tickets may be purchased in person at the CenturyLink Center box
office, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or viacollegehomerunderby.com.

METRO AREA
Thursday
City of Ralston: 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Frank and Velma Johnson Ralston Archives
Museum open house with 5 p.m. free patriotic music at the museum, 5615 Woodlawn
Ave. in Ralston; 4:30 p.m. pie-baking contest followed by 5:30 p.m. to 7:30
p.m. picnic, pie and ice cream social and music, all at Ralston Park, 80th and
Park Drive; 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. free square dance at 72nd and Main Streets
Friday
Nebraska Wind Symphony: 6 p.m. Free patriotic outdoor concert, Chalco Hills Recreation

Committee: 10 p.m. Free fireworks display at

Armbrust Acres Homeowners
Association Parade: 10:30 a.m. starting near 2756 S. 167th
St.; residents decorate strollers, bikes, trucks and cars in patriotic themes
Blair, Nebraska: 10 p.m. Free fireworks outside the South Creek Convention Center
(formerly the Blair Bowling Center)
Boys Town: Fireworks around 10 p.m. on the Boys Town campus; rain date:
Saturday
Champions Run: 10 p.m. Fireworks at the golf course, 13800 Eagle Run Drive; only
members and their guests can be on the grounds, but the display is visible from
afar
Cryer/Skylark neighborhood: annual parade starts at 10 a.m. Friday at Cryer Pool, 11783 Cryer
Ave. All are welcome to walk in the parade. A block party will follow at 118th
and Cedar Streets with food, games and more.
Field Club: The annual Fourth
of July parade starts at 10:30 a.m. and travels down Woolworth Avenue from 36th
Street to 32nd Avenue.
Huntington Park
Neighborhood Association: 10 a.m. Parade begins at the Huntington
Park tennis courts and ends at the pavilion with decorated bikes, wagons,
scooters and strollers
J.E. George Boulevard
Fourth of July Parade: 10 a.m. 64th annual parade starting at
J.E. George Boulevard and Nicholas Street; children and families walk or ride
decorated bikes, big wheels, wagons, strollers and homemade floats; this year’s
grand marshal is Mary Kelly, who has lived on J.E. George since 1978; the
honored guest for the parade is Dundee business eCreamery Ice Cream and Gelato
Strategic Air & Space
Museum: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Museum admission is
free to military, Guard and reserve personnel plus their families; military
identification required to receive free admission for two adults and up to six

Ralston Independence Day
Parade & Celebration: 10 a.m. to noon, quilt show at Baright

Seward, Nebraska: Events at the widely known old-fashioned Fourth of July family
celebration begin at 6 a.m. and finish with the 10 p.m. fireworks show at Plum
Creek Park; some highlights: aerobatic air show, 11 a.m. at Seward Municipal
Airport; 4 p.m. Grand Parade; 8 p.m. concert with Heartland of America Air
Force Band in Plum Creek Park; the day also features contests, games, a
carnival, a patriotic pageant, food and more; park at the high school and ride

Grand Island: The Stuhr Museum holds an 1894 Independence Day celebration 10

of America Living History: 7 p.m. Traditional campfire program at
the Heritage and Education Centers at Homestead National Monument of America

Underwood, Iowa: Day features Jack Link’s Runderwood 5K walk/run at 7 a.m., a
pancake breakfast, 10:30 a.m. parade, games, beer garden, bingo, teen dance,
food stands, dodgeball tournament, and grand finale fireworks show at 10 p.m.
Wahoo, Nebraska, Old-Fashioned
Fourth of July: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., hot dogs and chips
at Smith Park; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., bounce and splash at Smith Park; noon, kiddie
parade; noon to 5 p.m., special games and activities at Wahoo Aquatic Center; 1
p.m., old-fashioned games for kids (sack race, tile races, balloon hop races

Waverlyfest in Waverly,
Nebraska: Features a 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. pancake

volleyball, beer garden, street dance and swimming; after the parade, Peace
Lutheran Church will have a family barbecue and First United Methodist Church
will hold an ice cream social; concludes with a fireworks display at Lawson

July 12
Malvern, Iowa: A later-than-usual Independence Day celebration featuring the Race
the Trace 5K run/walk at the Wabash Depot at 8 a.m.; parade at 11 a.m.; bounce
houses, water games and activities.
Correction: The College Home Run Derby,
followed by The World-Herald’s 30th annual fireworks display, will be Thursday
starting at 7:30 p.m at TD Ameritrade Park. The day was incorrect in an earlier
version of this story.
